Procedures for Requesting a Permission for the Leave of Absence or Withdrawal from the University
➤ Thinking about taking a break or leaving the university?
We understand that sometimes things come up that may require you to take a leave of absence or withdraw from your studies. Here's what you need to know:
➤ Before you decide:
- Talk to your advisor first! They can help you understand your options and explore solutions that might allow you to continue your studies.
- Get the latest application form. The format changed in April 2022, so be sure to use the most recent version.
* Only signed application forms will be accepted (forms with seals will not be accepted).
➤ Submitting your application:
- Get your advisor's approval. Your professor will need to provide a "Comments on the Application for Leave of Absence" document to be submitted along with your application.
Important: Student, parent (or guardian) and academic advisor signatures are required on the application.
➤ Deadlines to submit your application:
- If you wish to take a leave of absence beginning on April 1 or to withdraw from the University on March 31, you must submit your application by February 15 of the same year.
- If you wish to take a leave of absence on October 1 or withdraw on September 30, you must submit your application by August 15 of the same year.
- If you wish to withdraw during the semester, you must submit your withdrawal request by the first Friday of that month (e.g., to withdraw on May 31, submit your documnets by the first Friday of May).
Important: The withdrawal date will be the last day of the month you wish to withdraw.
- If you wish to take a leave of absence during the semester (or return to your studies during your permitted leave of absence), you must submit your documents by the second Friday of the previous month (e.g., to take a leave of absence on July 1, submit your documnets by the second Friday of June).
Important:
・Leave of absence periods start and end at the beginning and end of a month, respectively.
・You can only apply (as well as extend) for the leave of absence of 3 months or longer, but only for one academic year at once.
・Extensions exceeding one year require special permission from the Academic Affairs Section.
➤ Important notes:
・You can't take a leave of absence or withdraw until your tuition is paid in full.
・Tuition will automatically accrue at the end of your leave of absence. If you want to extend your leave of absence, make sure to submit all the required socuments by the deadline.
