Research Overview

De novo protein design is an approach to creating proteins from scratch, including ones that do not exist in nature. Prof. DeGrado is a pioneer in this field, and our lab builds on this foundation to develop new strategies for designing protein structure and function. With recent advances in AI, it has become possible to design proteins more accurately and efficiently than ever before. In our lab, we leverage cutting-edge AI-based design tools to create novel functional proteins. Our goal is not only to deepen our understanding of fundamental biology, but also to develop proteins with potential applications in medicine and industry. Current research focuses on areas such as membrane fusion proteins, de novo enzyme design, and switchable proteins that can dynamically control their function.
