Career

Takayuki Doi was born in 1963 in Okayama, Japan. He received his Ph.D. in 1991 under the direction of Professor Takashi Takahashi in Tokyo Institute of Technology. After spending two and a half years at Columbia University as a postdoctoral scientist with Professor Gilbert Stork, he joined the Department of Chemical Engineering in Tokyo Tech as Assistant Professor in 1993. He was appointed Associate Professor in 2001 at Tokyo Tech and promoted to Full Professor (Heterocyclic Chemistry Group) at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Tohoku University in 2008. He joined Department of Molecular and Chemical Life Sciences (Bioorganic Medicinal Chemistry Group) at Graduate School of Life Sciences in Tohoku University. 
His research interest includes total synthesis of biologically active natural products, especially cyclic peptides possessing non-proteinogenic amino acids; biological evaluation and structure activity relationships of their synthetic derivatives.
He was a part of Organizing Committee of Japan Combinatorial Chemistry Focus Group (1998–2009). He has been Associate Editor of Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan (2011-present); Editorial Board Member of Combinatorial Chemistry & High Throughput Screening (2008-present); Editorial Advisory Board of ACS Omega (2017-present). He received the Progress Award in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan (2000); and the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan Award for Divisional Scientific Promotions (2013).
