Study Abroad Procedures

If you are planning to study abroad, you will need to complete the necessary procedures within the graduate school. To do so, please submit the following documents to the Academic Affairs Section of the Graduate School of Life Sciences Academic Affairs at least one month before your study abroad period begins:

  • Study Abroad Request Form
  • Proof of Acceptance from the Host Institution (an email confirming your acceptance, host institution, and study period is also acceptable)

Alternatively, instead of being treated as a "study abroad" student, you can apply for a "leave of absence". If you wish to take a leave of absence, please submit the required documnetrs within the designated period.

Overseas Study Abroad Insurance

Students traveling abroad for study or business trips are required to enroll in the Overseas Study Abroad Insurance (Futtai-Kaigaku) before departure.

It is not necessary to purchase this insurance in the following cases:
- If you are enrolled in overseas travel insurance specified by a travel agency due to flight and accommodation arrangements.
- If the host institution (receiving organization) or the study abroad program organizing body specifies overseas travel insurance.

Other Important Information (Details in Japanese, primarily for Japanese nationals)

★ Those who plan to stay overseas for three months or longer, must submit a "Notification of Overseas Residence" (Zairyu Todoke).

★ Travel Registration "Tabiregi" is a system that allows you to receive emergency information from Japanese diplomatic missions abroad in times of need. Information regarding terrorism, demonstrations, and incidents will be distributed via email. We recommend using this service for crisis management, even for short-term programs or private overseas trips.

★ Regarding Decisions on Cancellation, Postponement, or Early Return for Overseas Travel
To ensure safety and prevent harm during overseas study, it may be necessary to cancel or postpone your trip, or interrupt your stay and return early, depending on the situation in your destination country/region.
If any of the "Four Safety Measures (Categories)" or the "Four-Stage Infectious Disease Risk Information" on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Overseas Safety Website corresponds to "Level 2: Refrain from non-essential travel" or higher, you must postpone or cancel your study abroad.
Furthermore, if you are currently staying in such a country/region, you must interrupt your study and return to Japan immediately.
