The Tokyo Marine Kakamigami Memorial Foundation has announced the call for applications for the ASEAN Scholarship Program for the 2026 academic year. Those who wish to apply should submit the application documents to the Academic Affairs Section of the Graduate School of Life Sciences by Friday, February 6, 2026. If you are unable to apply by the deadline, please contact us in advance.
Please note that, in principle, individuals who have already been selected for or are currently applying for other scholarships that cannot be combined with this one for the 2026 academic year will be ineligible for selection.
Eligibility Requirements *Please refer to the Application Guidelines for details.
- Must be a national of an ASEAN country (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam).
- Must be enrolled in a regular graduate program as of April 2026 (excluding those with less than one year remaining in their program as of April 2025).
- Must be capable of communicating in Japanese or have a strong desire to learn Japanese (who are motivated to work toward achieving Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level by the end of the scholarship period).
*Even if your Japanese language ability is not sufficient to handle an interview (i.e., explain your research content) at this time due to being a recent arrival in Japan, you can still apply if you plan to acquire it in the future (have the desire).
*The interview will be conducted in Japanese, but you can switch to English partway through. Your current Japanese level will not affect the selection process.
- Cannot receive other scholarships (including government-sponsored MEXT scholarships) or research grants concurrently (no dual applications allowed). Cannot be combined with any internal university scholarships or Honors Scholarships (Gakushu Shoreihi).
- Must have an interest in international goodwill and be able to actively participate in various exchange activities.
Amount: Master’s Program: 180,000 yen / month; Doctoral Program: 200,000 yen / month
Payment Period: From April 2026 until the end of the standard term of study for the regular degree program. However, if the intended degree is obtained before the end of said term, payments will terminate at the time of graduation/degree completion.
