The final review appreciation gathering for the Graduate School of Life Sciences was held on Thursday, February 5, on the first floor of the Project Building.
All M2/D3 students worked very hard on writing their master’s theses and delivering their presentations. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the professors for their supervision and careful review of the theses.
We sincerely congratulate all M2/D3 students on their dedication and achievements.
Dr. Chiba, a postdoctoral researcher from Professor Kawaharada’s laboratory at Graduate School of Agriculture, Iwate University is staying in our laboratory from December 16th to 18th for collaborative research. He is a specialist in rhizobial symbiosis.
We received some oranges from Banba-sensei of Shizuoka University, who worked with us until March. Are they harvested at the Shizuoka University farm? We all enjoyed them together in the lab.
Thursday, October 30th: Field work was conducted at Kashimadai. We harvested Recombinant Inbred Lines (RILs) of Lotus japonicus.
RILs are lines produced by crossing two genetically distinct parental lines, and then repeatedly self-pollinating their offspring. With each generation, genetic homozygosity increases, ultimately establishing new, genetically uniform pure lines (RILs) where genes from both parents coexist in various combinations. RILs are characterized by possessing a mosaic-like genome from the parental lines, serving as highly useful tools for linkage analysis and mapping (locating) genetic loci (QTLs) associated with specific traits.
On October 31st, we participated in the Autumn Softball Tournament and Imoni Party. First, we would like to thank the Graduate Student Association of the Graduate School of Life Sciences for organizing the event.
Although we were eliminated in the first round, we managed to win two games in the subsequent exhibition matches.
It seems everyone had a very enjoyable time, which is wonderful.
Friday, October 3, 2025 A party was held to celebrate the 60th birthdays of Professor Sato and Associate Professor Mitsui. It also served as a celebration for Kaneko-kun’s academic award and Nozawa-san’s research grant acquisition. We also received a congratulatory gift from Assistant Professor Banba-san, who worked with us until last year.
Thank you very much.
